Having achieved a 2:1 in her LLB at Kingston University, and now nearing the end of her BVC at The College of Law, Tenia Baker is firmly committed to achieving her goal of becoming a medical law barrister specialising in personal injury law.

Dedicated to continual development, Tenia has driven her energies into mooting and other activities designed to improve her legal skill-set. While at University Tenia took part in over twenty moots and engaged herself in negotiation and client interviewing; making sure to progress her skills as rapidly as possible. Soon she was representing Kingston in national competitions and, in May last year, reached the finals of The Negotiation Competition 2007. In addition to this, she won Kingston University's client interviewing competition (sponsored by Surrey Law Society) and has begun FRU training.

Now near the end of the BVC, she has increased her emphasis on practical skills. Taking part in pro-bono work in leasehold tribunals, regularly court-running and concentrating her extra-curricular studies on Medical law, Tenia has taken control of her personal development. Over the summer Tenia plans to begin updating her blog with regular analysis of new medical law case law as and when it's decided.

She is attracted to a career in law for a number of reasons. Whilst possessing a natural flair for presentation she is also attracted by the intellectual challenge that law presents over and above other careers. Personal injury law itself is of great interest due to the various moral, as well as legal, issues that cases within the field often grapple with. The growth of claims for psychiatric injury, following White and Alcock, is of particular interest to Tenia.

Personal

There's more to Tenia than a drive to succeed. She is a caring person who has varied interests; from the theatre to belly-dancing.

Family is hugely important to Tenia. She has learnt to juggle her personal time well between studying and caring for her two sisters and autistic brother - for whom she is one of his carers.

Since arriving in this country when 8 Tenia has striven to improve herself; a trend that is evident throughout her work. A meticulous worker, Tenia prides herself in creating finished articles that are well presented, perfectly written and thoroughly researched.
